Artist Biography
My name is Liam Hollinger and I am an artist based on the Tweed border (Bundjalung). My artwork is predominately painted in oils as I find the paint has a stiffer quality, which reveals brush marks in a painterly manner. My paintings use tonal variations to change the perspective and alter the spatial qualities around the prime subject matter. Keeping close to my roots of sports and recreation I create active spaces for both the artist and viewer to engage with. Combining elements of craftsmanship and environmental knowledge to create a deeper understanding of the forces that human kind must face and endure.
I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Griffith University in 2017, since then I have had two group exhibitions and two solo exhibitions including “Too Human” and “Forlorn Vulture.” I was awarded a book prize from QAGOMA for best presentation at the graduation (Griffith university), I was also awarded best oil painting at the Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular in 2019. My practise involves comparing the complexities in painting with social engagements. Some of my influences stem from the post-impressionists and cubist periods, artists like Paul Cezanne and George Braque. Also, Australian Artist such as Kevin Lincoln, John Brack and Russell Drysdale have been a major influence on my practise.
